challenges

Gelliprinting with fruit

I haven’t done a lot of art challenges, but I must say they DO help when you need a push.

My first challenge was last year when a friend and I decided to gather lots of different kinds of paper and canvas, cut them down to A5 and then bind them together with a bind-it-all ring binder. We used tracing paper, brochures, watercolour paper, canvas, old envelopes, embroidery weave, paper mats, card, newspaper strengthened with gesso…

The best thing with a challenge are the word prompts. Otherwise you can sit for hours trying to think about what to paint or draw. If you have a prompt then at least there’s something to work with.

The page on the left was prompted by the word, mandarin. I used my gel-plate and an orange which had seen better days.

Here are some of the pictures from my printing session. I used GOLDEN Fluid acrylics and GOLDEN OPEN in Pyrrole Orange and Carbon Black, working on both black paper and deli-paper.
